The Hi-Line was home to two state championship teams this past weekend in the KG KouGars and the Havre Blue Ponies.

The two teams have won a combined seven state titles in the last four years. The KG boys track team has four. The Havre boys tennis team has three.

The KouGars ran away with the trophy, amassing 88 points nearly 60 points more than Scobey in second place.

The Ponies' title was a lot closer. Havre scored 44 points with Hamilton scoring 43. The title came down to a third-set tiebreaker in the final match of the day the third and fourth-place doubles match. A win from Seth Maristuen and Jeremy Heninger and the title would belong to Havre for the third straight year. A loss from the duo and Hamilton would be the new champions.

Despite being down 0-4 and then 4-6, Maristuen and Heninger came back to win 8-6 for third place individually and keeping the title in Havre's hands.

KouGar coach Butch Marshall said he knew the title would stay in KG early Saturday morning. It was then that the KouGars made history. No other Class C boys track team had won four consecutive state championships.

The Harlowton girls hold the all-class record, winning their fifth straight state title this season.

Senior Aaron Smith won the 1600- and 3200-meter runs to lead the way with two individual titles. Junior Casey Crites won the high jump and placed second in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and the long jump. Roger Larson added one second, third and fifth-place finish with Robbie Gomke adding another second-place finish and Thomas Marshall adding a fifth-place finish and Tel Sterner two sixth-place finishes.

Havre was led by freshman Kyle Baltrusch, who won the singles title. Doubles team of Mike Frey and Daine Solomon came in second place, followed by Maristuen and Heninger in third. Cody McLain and doubles team of Marc Mariani and Gary Wagner added finishes in the top six.
