May 29, 2002
Search and rescue divers found the body of a drowned Rocky Boy police officer late this morning in the Bonneau Reservoir.
Officer Robert Taylor drowned Monday evening while trying to rescue two fishermen whose boat had overturned. Taylor disappeared underwater as he swam toward the boat.
One of the fishermen made it to shore under his own power and the other was rescued by people on shore.
Taylor's body was discovered at 10:52 a.m. by divers from the Lewis and Clark County search and rescue team, who were using a boat and a fish finder that belong to a Big Sandy resident.
The divers began the search Tuesday afternoon in the lake on Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation and resumed it this morning.
Taylor was a police officer at Rocky Boy for six years.
