BPDC applies for money to improve infrastructure

Bear Paw Development Corp. has submitted applications for more than $6.7 million to pay for infrastructure improvements in local communities.

"The very foundation of economic development is healthy, vibrant communities, and healthy communities begin with a reliable infrastructure," Annmarie Robinson said in a press release. "These applications represent a continuation of Bear Paw's commitment to the people and communities of northern Montana to find creative solutions to difficult problems."

Robinson, Bear Paw's deputy director and infrastructure development specialist, works with communities in Bear Paw's district to prioritize their infrastructure needs. She prepared the applications for funding.

So far, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development has approved $1.5 million in loans and $1.3 million in grants to the city of Chinook for a wastewater project.

Robinson submitted applications totalling more than $2.1 million to the Montana Treasure State Endowment Program and has requested $300,000 from the Montana Renewable Resources Program. Those appropriations would require approval by the Montana Legislature.

The projects those applications would fund are three bridge replacements in Hill County, two bridge replacements in Blaine County, repairs to Beaver Creek Dam, work on a wastewater collection system for the Meadowlark Water and Sewer District, and improvements for the town of Geraldine's water system.
