JESS ANGSTMAN, Obituary

Jess L. Angstman Jr., 83, retired co-owner of Angstman Motors, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at a Havre care center due to complications of cancer.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Jude Catholic Church with Father Robert D. Grosch officiating. Burial with military hon-

ors will follow at the Highland Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the St. Jude Parish Center immediately following the committal rite at the cemetery.

Jess was born Nov. 24, 1918, to Jess L. and Laurena (Jesmer) Angstman in Harlem. Jess was raised in the Havre area and attended St. Jude grade school He graduated from Havre High School in 1936. After High School Jess went to work for Valley Motor Supply in Glasgow.

On June 25, 1941, he married Laura Petersen in Havre. The couple had two children.

Jess was drafted for World War II and served in the U.S. Army as a technical sergeant. He was stationed in the Philippines and Japan. Jess was honorably discharged in 1946. He returned to Glasgow to work for Valley Motor and was later transferred to Sidney. He moved back to Havre in 1950 when Jess and his brother, Paul, purchased the Chevrolet dealership formerly called Milk River Motor Company from Claude Dowen. The name was then changed to Angstman Motors until the brothers sold the dealership in 1979 to Mike Tilleman.

Jess was very active and never really retired. He worked for Bernie Golie in the Bear Paw Mountains and then went to work for Miessner Tractor Company in the 1990s until he had to officially retire in 1998 due to his health. Jess loved people he enjoyed visiting with everyone. He was a very giving person. Jess and Laura spent a lot of time at their cabin in the Bear Paw Mountains. He also enjoyed fishing and his player piano. He was a devoted Notre Dame fan especially for their football team.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Elio Tait Angstman.

Jess is survived by his wife, Laura of Havre; son, Tab Jess Angstman of Havre; daughter, Darlene Angstman (Jim) Dowen of Kalispell; brother, Paul (Peggy) Angstman of Havre; sisters, Ann Arlene Jamber of Kalispell and Mary Jeanne Schwietz of St. Paul, Minn .; two grandchildren, Todd (Terri) Angstman of Kalispell, Pam (Eric) Sundene of Renton, Wash .; great-grandchild.

Memorials in Jess's honor may be made to St. Jude Catholic School, 624 Fourth Street, Havre, MT 59501.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
