Results will be updated on the Web

HELENA (AP) The secretary of state's office intends to post primary election results on its Web site tonight, updating totals throughout the evening as they come in, officials say.

Election administrators will post county-by-county primary results for the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House, as well as races for the state Supreme Court, the Public Service Commission, District Court seats and contested legislative races.

"We're really looking forward to this," said Elaine Graveley, elections deputy for the secretary of state's office. "We're really excited about it, but a little nervous too. ... This is the first time we've tried something like this."

Secretary of State Bob Brown noted that all the results posted are unofficial totals.

He said the first results should be available a couple hours after the polls close at 8 p.m. Counties are expected to fax or call in their totals to the secretary of state's office and they will posted on the Web site as they arrive.

Graveley said the site will be updated throughout the night as each county's totals are made available.

The polling places in Hill County opened at 7 this morning and will remain open until 8 tonight.
