Two-day Milk River tour set

Residents along the Milk River have a chance to tour the river and see highlights of its irrigation systems, municipal water systems and recreation projects,

The Milk River International Alliance is sponsoring a two-day bus tour, June 25 and 26. The tour, which costs $30 total for both days, starts in Malta, and includes catered lunches, a supper and an open-panel discussion the night of June 25, and a breakfast June 26.

The tour starts at the Westside Gas station in Malta at 6 a.m. June 25, with an introduction to the tour at the Chinook Motor Inn at 7:15 a.m. The tour will cover Fresno Reservoir and the Chinook, Harlem and Malta areas that day.

The panel, which starts at 7 p.m., includes representatives of Montana's congressional delegation. Representatives from Gov. Judy Martz, the Alberta provincial government, Independence Bank and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation also will be on the panel.

After the panel, buses will leave Malta for Chinook at 9 p.m.

On June 26, the buses will load in Chinook at 6 a.m. and in Malta at 7 a.m. There will be a breakfast at Dodson School at 7:30 a.m. The tour will include a leafy spurge discussion and will cover projects and concerns in the Malta and Glasgow areas, concluding at Malta at 4:45 p.m. and Chinook at 5:30 p.m.
