She initially worked as a private duty nurse and as a general duty nurse at Kennedy Deaconess Hospital.

Mildred married M. Ray Hill on April 9, 1933, in Havre where they lived for many years. She interrupted her nursing work to stay at home when they had children. She also helped run the family business, Ray's Service Station at the corner of Third Avenue and Sixth Street. Mildred later returned to nursing work at the hospital. She was a supervisor in the hospital's newborn nursery during her last nursing years in Havre.

They moved to Dillon in 1962 where Mildred worked as an office nurse for three different doctors. She also worked briefly at Barrett Hospital in Dillon. She spent her last years as a professional nurse at the Montana Children's Center in Twin Bridges. She retired in 1973.

She was also an active member of the Montana Nurses Association and served two years as president and two years as secretary of the MNA District 7 in Havre. Mildred and her nursing colleagues were strongly supportive of Montana nursing education programs. Her colleagues were special friends and she corresponded with them as long as she could.

Mildred and Ray moved to Pullman, Wash., in 1980, and to Clarkston, Wash., in 1983. Mildred moved back to Pullman in 1993 after her husband passed away. She lived at Pioneer Square Apartments in Pullman until 1999, when she moved to Bishop Place.

Mildred enjoyed traveling, corresponding with friends and family, playing bridge, gardening, visiting with friends, and making home-crafted items.

Mildred was a lifelong Methodist. She was baptized in the Redstone Methodist Church that was built on ground donated by her maternal grandparents. She joined the local Methodist Church in each community where she lived and attended services as long as she was able. The Simpson United Methodist Church in Pullman was her last place of worship.
