Lewistown, Glasgow pick up wins

The Lewistown Redbirds opened the Havre Northstar 2002 Baseball Jamboree tournament Thursday afternoon with a convincing 12-0 win over Kootenai Valley.

Lewistown drilled home four runs in the first and fifth innings and two runs in each of the third and fourth innings en route to the win. The Redbirds pounded 10 hits in the game.

Lewistown pitcher Chris Byerly held the Rangers to four hits in five innings.

Chris Otto sparked the Redbirds with a 3-for-4 game with three runs scored and one RBI.

After giving up two runs in the top of the first inning, the Glasgow Reds thrashed back with seven runs in the bottom of the inning en route to a 19-6 annihilation of Kootenai Valley.

Tyson Schlabs delivered the big blow of the first inning with a two-run home run.

Glasgow sent 14 men to the plate in the fourth inning and scored eight more runs, sealing the victory. The Reds had just three hits in the fourth but took advantage of three untimely Kootenai Valley errors. Glasgow also stranded three runners in the inning.

Kootenai Valley scored three runs in the second inning and added one more in the fifth, but still fell short.

Steve Falcon led the way for the Reds with a 3-for-4 game with three runs scored. Nathan Hopstad added a 2-for-3 game, also with three runs scored.

Jesse Clark had a perfect 3-for-3 game with a single, double and a triple to lead the Rangers.
