RICHARD OLSTAD, Obituary

Richard E. "Red" Olstad, 84, died Saturday, June 8, 2002, at a Great Falls Hospital of natural causes.

The funeral service is 2 p.m. Friday at the Holland and Bonine Chapel with Pastor Brad Ulgenes officiating. Burial is to follow at the Highland Cemetery

with full military graveside honors.

Richard was born May 22, 1919, to Martin and Elsie (Cole) Olstad at Valley City, N.D. He was educated in Moe and Nelson schools, located in the Sheyenne Valley in North Dakota. Red served his country during World War II in the National Guard, called to active duty. He was in the 957th Field Artillery Battalion. He returned home as a corporal. Red worked both for the Great Northern Railway and on various farms. His employment brought him to Havre.

On Oct. 13, 1964, Richard married Ethel in Havre. The couple moved to Yuma, Ariz., in 1980. He later moved to Havre to live at the Eagles Manor Retirement Apartments.

Red enjoyed going on ship cruises and playing cards. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Elsie Olstad; wife, Ethel Olstad in 1993; four brothers; and six sisters.

Survivors include his niece, Pearl Ulrich of Yuma, Ariz.; nephew, Milo Falstad of Valley City, N.D.; also many other nieces and nephews.

Memorials in Richard's honor may be made to a person's choice.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
