Skylights ink Division I transfer

The exciting off-season continues for the Montana State University-Northern Skylights with the signing of Division I transfer Anna Bateman, head coach Mike Erickson announced Tuesday.

Bateman is a 5-foot-7 point guard from Rupert, Idaho.

"Anna is exactly the kind of player we are building our program around," Erickson said. "She is not only a great basketball player but also a great student and all-around person. She will be a great asset to the team."

Bateman also played ball at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah, where she guided the school to two Region XVIII regular season titles.

"Being a captain at Snow College, Anna brings leadership and stability to the Skylight family," Erickson said.

As a freshman guard, Bateman averaged 12 points per game. She averaged 13 ppg last season. Her teammates voted her as the defensive player of the year both years at Snow College.

Bateman is also an outstanding student, Erickson said. She earned Region XVIII Academic Co-Player of the Year honors twice.

"I'm excited to have such a great signee for the Skylights," Erickson said. "She comes from a great family and has great values. She is everything we want in a student-athlete. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have her as a part of our family as she was highly recruited by many NCAA Division I programs in the nation." One such program which recruited her was the MSU-Bozeman Bobcats.

"Anna, along with returning player Davina Shoemake and added freshman Kristie Pullin, will bring added depth at the guard position," Erickson said. The Skylights plan on playing an up-tempo style of basketball.

Bateman plans to major in engineering at MSU-Northern.
