3-on-3 tourney adds twist

A new twist has been added to the annual Nothing But Net 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament this year.

The Havre Area Chamber of Commerce is awarding four $1,000 scholarships to tournament participants entering either 11th or 12th grade in the 2002-03 school year. The scholarship is for participants who are considering attending Montana State University-Northern. Applicants must participate in the tournament to be eligible.

Deadline for the scholarships is Sept. 14. The scholarships will be awarded by Oct. 31.

Applicants are required to fill out an application, submit an unofficial high school transcript, as well as two letters of recommendation from anyone other than a family member, a list of activities, honors, outstanding achievements and community service activities, and a typed essay answering the question, "What would you do for your community with $1 million dollars." The essay can be no longer than one page in length.

Each scholarship will be divided in two ways: $600 devoted to tuition and fees and $400 to housing. If the winner does not wish to stay in the dorms, the $400 will be forfeited.

The scholarships will be awarded to those who meet the expectations of the scholarship committee.
