CLAIRE SOHM, Obituary

BIG SANDY Claire "Red" Sohm, 77, retired grain buyer and hail insurance and grain bin agent of Big Sandy died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at a Big Sandy hospital of natural causes.

Rosary Vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church in Big Sandy. Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church in Big Sandy with the Rev. Pete Guthneck officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Highland Cemetery in Havre. Fellowship to follow Funeral Service at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church in Big Sandy.

Red was born on Feb. 23, 1925, in Danbury, Iowa, to Frank and Leonella (Dirkx) Sohm. In 1933, his family moved to Kremlin to farm, where he attended school. Red joined the Army in 1943 and served his country during World War II in Germany. He was honorably discharged in March 1946.

On May 24, 1948, Red married O'della Brower at Great Falls. To this union, two children were born. He was a grain buyer working at Centennial Mills in Havre and Big Sandy for more than 30 years. He was a hail insurance and grain bin agent as well.

He was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Leonella (Dirkx) Sohm; brothers, Vernon, Leon and Gene Sohm

He is survived by his wife, O'della Sohm of Big Sandy; brother, Duane Sohm of Havre; sister, Bonnie Barkmeier of Lake City, Iowa; son, Jim Sohm of Duvall, Wash.; daughter, Vicki Pfeiffer of Havre; grandsons, Brad Pfeiffer of Missoula, Chad Pfeiffer of Havre, and Jeremy Sohm of Bozeman; one granddaughter, Angie Sohm of Duvall, Wash.; one great-grandson, Nicholas Pfeiffer of Columbus, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials in Red's honor may be made to: The Big Sandy Ambulance, Big Sandy, MT 59520; Big Sandy Medical Center, Big Sandy, MT 59520; St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church, Box 20, Big Sandy, MT 59520; or to the memorial of a person's choice.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home in Havre.
