Northstars take 3 of 4 in Canada

The Havre Northstars took a rare, though short, losing streak to Canada Tuesday and Wednesday, hoping to redeem themselves from their first conference loss.

But Medicine Hat had other plans for the Havre team.

The Knights took the first game of the doubleheader 12-7. A costly six-run fourth inning was the undoing for Havre. The Northstars came back in another wild game and won the second American Legion contest 12-9.

Tyler Thompson, who took the loss in the first game, had the hot bat in the second game. Thompson went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and three RBI.

The Northstars were down 9-8 heading into the seventh inning, when they exploded for four runs on three hits to take the lead. Doug Ireland continued his strong work on the mound, striking out two in the bottom of the inning for the win.

Steve Heberly and Ireland combined to allow seven hits on the mound for the Northstars.

Havre then traveled to Vauxhall to take on the struggling Spurs. The Northstars dominated both games, winning by scores of 14-0 and 12-2.

The Northstars had three four-run innings in the first game. Havre totaled 11 hits.

Ian Spencer took the hill and pitched all five innings for the win. He struck out eight.

Designated hitter Cory Junck had a perfect 3-for-3 game with a double, two singles and a walk. Junck scored once and drove in three. Thompson continued his hot hitting with a 3-for-4 game with two RBI and one run scored. Danny Wirtzberger added a 2-for-3 game with two runs scored.

An eight-run second inning in game two led the Northstars to another five-inning win.

Dusty Heath started the inning with a double and scored two batters later on a Tyler VanderMars single. Spencer followed with an RBI single, driving in Daine Solomon, who reached on a walk. Two Vauxhall errors also added to Havre's big inning.

Catcher Adam Jensen and Solomon each had 2-for-3 games to spark the Northstars. Jensen scored once and drove in three, while Solomon scored twice and drove in two.

The Northstars are back in action today against the Great Falls Sparkies. Game time in Great Falls is set for 3 p.m.
