IRENE BELCOURT, Obituary

BOX ELDER Irene Martha Swan Belcourt, 82, died Friday July 5, 2002, at a Havre hospital of cancer.

Wake began at the Carla Morsette residence Saturday afternoon and moved to the Rocky Boy Catholic Church this afternoon. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Rocky Boy Catholic Church with the Rev. Pete Guthneck officiating. Burial is to follow at the Rocky Boy Cemetery.

Irene was born April 9, 1920, to Robert and Adeline Swan at Lewistown. She was educated at Lewistown. On May 19, 1937, Irene married Gilbert Belcourt at Havre. To this union, 14 children were born.

She enjoyed sewing, beading, playing Yahtzee, fishing, and doing puzzles. She very much enjoyed spending time with her grand children and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Adeline Swan; husband, Gilbert Belcourt Sr .; lifelong friend and mate, Carl "Bear" Sangrey; brothers, George Swan and Walter Swan; sister, Dorthy Hadleburg; son Gilbert "Popeye" Belcourt; daughter, Darlene Freeman; grandson, Curtis Wayne Belcourt; granddaughter, Annastasia Daniel Dupuis.

Survivors include her brother, Charlie Swan of Box Elder; sons, Martin "Marty" Belcourt of Arlee, George "Ponch" Belcourt of Box Elder, Marvin "Skinny" Belcourt of Box Elder, Richard Belcourt of Missoula, Harley "Hawks" Belcourt of Missoula, John "Saltzman" Belcourt of Townsend; adopted son, Alvin "Alley Cat" Caplette of Rocky Boy; daughters Marie Mock of Ronan, Irene "Rena" Parisian of Box Elder, Vera Lack of Polson, Shirley Meyers of Rocky Boy, Roberta Belcourt of Bozeman, Carla Morsette of Box Elder; adopted daughters, Cindy Big Back of Busby and Irene "Bunny" Potts of Rocky Boy; 70 grandchildren; 100 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials in Irene's honor may be made to a person's choice.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
