Campaign raises $3,400 for food bank

People donated $1,700 for the North Havre Community Food Bank, triggering an equal match from the Town Pump Charitable Foundation.

The food bank was selected as one of 19 across the state to participate in the first "Be a Friend in Deed, Helping Those in Need" food bank fund-raising campaign. The Town Pump Charitable Foundation matched the funds raised at the food bank and at local Town Pump stations, TownHouse Inns and Lucky Lil's and Magic Diamond casinos.

During the two-month campaign, a total of $3,400 was raised for the North Havre Community Food Bank.

The food bank provides supplemental food support along with emergency food supplies. The funds raised in this campaign will help carry the food bank through the summer months when children are out of school and unable to participate in school food programs.

"At the beginning of this campaign we committed $50,000 in matching funds from the Town Pump Charitable Foundation," Town Pump spokeswoman Maureen Kenneally said in a press release. "Our goal was to raise a total of $100,000 for local food banks and to raise awareness of hunger in our state.

"We are excited to announce more than $130,000 has been contributed for food banks in 18 communities across Montana. Thanks to the great effort by volunteers, employees and concerned citizens, we have succeeded in raising awareness of hunger in Montana and most importantly have taken the first steps toward alleviating hunger in our communities."
