Lights add three wrestlers

Montana State University-Northern wrestling coach David Ray has added three more wrestlers to the Lights roster.

Jake Osborn and Jason Smith come to Northern from Oregon. Osborn and Smith wrestled on the same team and have both been out of school for one year. Both will be walk-ons for the Lights.

"They add good depth. You never know what's going to happen to them," Ray said. "They add bodies to the team. It's good to have them in the room. They could be a surprise. Who knows, in a few years they might be helping us."

Smith will wrestle at 197 pounds and Osborn at 157 pounds.

Osborn is 5 feet, six inches tall and intends to major in elementary education. He was a team captain his junior and senior year. He has one fifth-place state finish, two thirds and one second.

Smith is 6 feet, 1 inch tall and was named most valuable wrestler for his high school team. His overall high school record is 103-35 and includes one sixth-place state finish, one fifth and one fourth.

Chris Smith comes to the Lights from Wyoming, Mich., and was recruited by many Division I schools.

Chris Smith stands at 5-foot-7 and weighs 135 pounds. Ray said he plans on Chris Smith wrestling at 133 pounds. Chris Smith intends to major in education.

"He's better than any kid that graduated in Montana this year," Ray said.

Chris Smith has a 183-14 combined high school record, including a 55-1 record his senior year. He has 94 total pins in the four years.

"He has a lot of skills, a lot of talent. He's strong and has a lot of natural ability," Ray said. "He adds to a great recruiting class. If he works hard, his potential is unlimited. He's a tough kid, a good kid. We're very fortunate to get him."
