MONTA CAMPBELL, Obituary

GILDFORD Monta A. Campbell, 95, a longtime Gildford grocer, passed away Friday, July 19, 2002, at a Cut Bank care center.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date at the Gildford Baptist Church.

Monta was born March 23, 1907, in Stevensville to David E. and Clara Bell (Ellis) Wilson. She received her schooling in Everson and Denton.

She married Jack Campbell in Havre on Nov. 22, 1927. They farmed in the Denton and Fairfield areas before moving to Gildford in January 1941 to work in her uncle's store. The couple moved out into the country in 1946. She worked for Bert Twedt Hardware in Gildford for many years and also worked at a grocery store in Chester.

In February 1953, the couple bought the grocery store in Gildford. That was where she was the happiest, when she was behind the counter.

Her husband Jack passed away on Jan. 1, 1969. Monta moved into the nursing home in Cut Bank in 1996.

She was a member of the Gildford Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting and making quilts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; four brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Ardith and husband Glenn Roush of Cut Bank; son, John and wife Ann Campbell of Gildford; sister, Helen Brown of Renton, Wash.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren and 11 stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the Gildford Baptist Church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Whitted Funeral Chapel of Shelby is in charge of arrangements.
