Havre kids cop Lethbridge tourney title

LETHBRIDGE, Canada The North Stars all-star team for 9- and 10-year-olds traveled to Lethbridge, Canada, over the weekend and came back to Havre as champions.

The North Stars went undefeated in round robin action, defeating Pincher Creek 12-0, Lethbridge Norcrest 9-3, Lethbridge South-West 15-1 and Medicine Hat 9-3.

The all-stars then had to face the tough Medicine Hat team again in the championship game. Both Medicine Hat and the North Stars had well-rounded, well-coached teams with good pitcher-catcher combos and defensive abilities, as well as players not afraid to swing at hard-thrown balls.

A strong pitching effort, great field play, amazing bunts and selfless team play gave the North Stars their proudly displayed championship trophies.

The young North Stars will be in action again this weekend with a six-team tournament in Medicine Hat, Alberta.

Members of the North Stars are Joe Malisani, Tyler Handley, Clayton McDaniel, Chad Nault, JoJo Billy, Kirby Lafromboise, Jessie Majeres, Trevor Dees, C.J. Evens, Roman Surber, Justin Jensen and Matt Olson, and coaches Lunar Evans, Paul Dees and Mark Majeres.

Championship game: Pitching: Clayton McDaniel, 1 1/3 innings, Tyler Handley, 2 2/3 innings, C.J. Evans, 2 innings. Batting: C. J. Evans, 2-for-3, Clayton McDaniel, 2-for-3, Tyler Handley, 2-for-3, JoJo Billy, 2-for-2, Justin Jensen, 1-for-2.
