Bitterroot sends the Northstars to the loser's bracket

The ferocious hitting and the smokin' arm of Bitterroot pitcher Joe Franklin were too much for the Northstars Sunday as they fell to the Red Sox 12-5 at the State Class A American Legion Tournament.

Bitterroot started out, fast scoring four runs in the first inning and one in the second, to jump out to a 5-0 lead. Havre got on the board in the fourth, scoring two runs, only to have those runs negated by two Red Sox runs also in the fourth.

Havre scored its last three runs in the top of the seventh moving to come within four of the Red Sox's nine runs. Bitterroot scored three more runs in the last two innings to seal the fate of the Northstars and claim the win 12-5.

Franklin got the win by hurling for all nine innings with seven hits, six strikeouts and five eared runs.

Bitterroot's batters pummeled the Northstrs, with eight sluggers with two or more hits for a total of 19 hits including five doubles and 11 RBIs.

Havre had only seven hits, three coming from Daine Solomon (3-3) including a double. Adam Jensen (1-5) also had a double.

Now in the loser's bracket, the Northstars' next game will be today at 8 p.m. They will play the winner of today's 12:30 p.m. game between the Billings Blue Jays and the Livingston Braves. If Havre wins, they will play again Tuesday at 12:30 p.m.
