Pledges are still welcome for trees, benches at Town Square

The Town Square park is nearing completion. What a feeling of excitement to see a dream become reality.

When the project was launched at the "Meet Me at the Town Square" pitchfork fondue during Havre Festival Days 2000, the community overwhelmingly supported the project.

A total of $18,000 was raised that evening through pledges for the lampposts, benches and trees. All 12 planned lampposts were spoken for that night.

There is still an opportunity to purchase a tree or a park bench for the square. The benches, trees and lampposts that have been purchased have the option of having a plaque noting the family or business name or an "in memory" plaque. The benches are $400 and the trees are $500.

The Town Square project is based on a traditional concept that the square is a place where people can meet and gather. One objective of the project is to generate increased activity throughout the community through planned events at the square some of those events being Saturday Market, Havre Festival Days activities, a Historical Brunch Walk, Art on the Avenue, Community Arts Festival, Sunset on Square featuring local talent, and an expanded Tree Lighting and Holiday Celebration.

For visitors, the Town Square will be a comfortable place to picnic, sit or stroll. The core of the concept interlaces the various components of our community, including residents, businesses, schools, local government, recreation, and cultural and historical attractions. The design and location of the Town Square project will preserve the unique ambiance of our town.

With the many community events and activities planned, the area will serve as a reminder of the rich heritage of Havre and our Western culture.
