Blaine gets mining permit

Blaine County has received the permit and paid the fines required to resume operation of the Cronk and Pomeroy gravel pits.

The Montana Department of Environmental Quality charged that Blaine County violated the Montana Opencut Mining Act at the gravel pits by mining without a permit from the department.

As part of the settlement, Blaine County was directed to cease mining operations until the appropriate permit applications were submitted, reviewed and approved. Blaine County submitted the required permit applications and paid a $1,175 administrative civil penalty to settle the violations, the department said. The department has issued the necessary permits to the county.
