The Havre-Hill County Library has on display the winning art entries of the 2002 Federal Duck Stamp Program.

The Duck Stamp Program has been brought to us through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The Montana/Federal Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design Program is a dynamic, active art and science curriculum designed to teach waterfowl and wetlands conservation to students in kindergarten through high school. This program incorporates scientific and wildlife management principles into a visual arts curriculum. This non-traditional pairing of subjects brings new interest to both science and the arts.

The display of artwork has been created by young artists from all around Montana. The best of the show represents Montana in the national competition for a chance to become the federal junior duck stamp of the year.

Graysen Vukasin, a young Havre artist, received first place for his entry. Graysen is the son of Al and Judy Vukasin. Ginnie Streeper, a local artist and member of the Havre Art Association, is his art instructor.

Awards for all first- through third-place winners have included U.S. savings bonds, binoculars, art portfolios, "The Duck Stamp Story, which is a full color book, custom matting and framing of winning designs, art supplies and other great prizes.

The public is encouraged to come to the Havre-Hill County Library to view the display. You will be impressed with the talent of the young artists and very proud of Graysen, our Havre entry.

Brochures with contact and background information about the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Program and Scholarship Competition are available at the display.
