Milk River is subject of Hi-Line tour

Fresno Dam, the Chinook Weir, Dodson Dam, a leafy spurge demonstration, and Nelson Reservoir are a few of the stops on the Heart of the Hi-Line Tour.

The tour will begin Sept. 11 and wrap up on Sept. 12, highlighting structural projects along the Milk River.

"This tour is a great opportunity for people along the Hi-Line to see irrigation projects, a municipal water plant, and recreational opportunities along the Milk River," said Kay Blatter, president of the Milk River International Alliance.

An open panel discussion, "Sustaining The Flow of the Milk River," will be part of the tour. It will be free and open to the public.

The discussion will take place in the Malta High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Sept. 11 and will be moderated by Russell Nemetz of Northern Ag Network. Members of the panel will include representatives from Montana's congressional delegation, the governor's office, the Alberta Provincial Government, First State Bank of Malta, and the federal Bureau of Reclamation. People are encouraged to attend the panel discussion even if they are unable to attend the tour.

Seating for the tour is limited and the registration deadline is Sept. 5. Registration forms and information about the tour are available at local conservation district offices.
