IDA JOHNSON, Obitaury

Ida K. Johnson, 94, retired Johnson Jewelry Store owner, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, in Fargo, N.D., after a short illness.

Graveside service is 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Highland Cemetery. Memorial service is 11 a.m. Tuesday the First Lutheran Church in Havre with Pastor Brad Ulgenes officiating. Luncheon is to follow the memorial service at the First Lutheran Church.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.

Ida Karina Ivesdal was born on Aug. 21, 1907, near Edmore, N.D., on the family farm, the daughter of Lars and Matha (Haug) Ivesdal. She grew up and attended grade school in Prospect School near Edmore, and graduated from Edmore High School in 1925. Ida attended nursing school at Koehler Hospital (Mayo Clinic) in Rochester, Minn., later moving to Grand Forks, N.D., to attend Union Commercial College. Upon graduating from Union College, Ida took a job with the State Mill and Elevator in Grand Forks.

On Aug. 30, 1929, Ida married George N. Johnson in Grand Forks. In October of 1933, Ida, George, and Lois moved to Havre, where she and George started the Johnson Jewelry Store. In April of 1978 George

died. Ida continued living in Havre until May 1977 when she moved to Fargo, N.D., where she lived at Trollwood Village until her illness.

Ida liked to read, put together jigsaw puzzles, was a devout Republican, and loved to travel. She took her family around the world in 1992 at the age of 85, celebrating her birthday in many different countries. Ida was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron in Havre. She was also a member of First Lutheran Church in Havre.

Ida was preceded in death by her husband, George, and her four sisters: Alice Lemke, Athelia Hammer, Jule Hellekson, and Myrtle Haggard precede her in death.

Ida K. Johnson is survived by her daughters, Lois (Gordon) Flom of Mill Creek, Wash., and Muriel (John) Hinman of Fargo, N.D.; brothers, Tollef Ivesdal of Edmore, N.D., and James (Norma) Ivesdal of Edmore, N.D.; sisters, Evelyn Lee of Harbor City, Calif., and Nina (Arvid) Berggren of Langdon, N.D.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
