ZELPHA WEIDNER, Obituary
CHINOOK Zelpha Pauline Weidner, 89, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at her home in Grandview, Wash.
Funeral services were scheduled for 2 p.m. today in the United Methodist Church in Chinook with burial in Kuper Memorial Cemetery.
Zelpha was born May 6, 1913, to Albert Harshman and Anna Brovont in Milford, Ind. The family moved to Chinook in 1927, where she continued her schooling. She graduated valedictorian of her class in 1931.
On Aug. 24, 1931, she married Alvin Weidner in Chinook. They lived in Chinook, except for a brief period when they moved to Great Falls, Park Grove at Fort Peck and then Kalispell. They returned to Chinook with the death of Dan Weidner. Zelpha was asked upon their return to fill in as a temporary bookkeeper at Montana Power Company. She worked there from March 12, 1947, until her retirement on May 31, 1978. She also was a tireless, dedicated and caring worker for many years at the Chinook Senior Center.
Needing cataract surgery in 1997, she returned with her son to Grandview, Wash., and elected to reside there due to deteriorating health caused by a previous heart attack.
Zelpha was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Weidner, who died in November 1959, and her daughter-in-law, Floy (Bowen) Weidner.
Survivors include her son, William Weidner of Grandview, Wash .; brothers, Dwight Harshman of Havre, Maurice and Donald Harshman of Chinook, and Clark Harshman of Great Falls; sisters, Helen Easbey of Helena and Miriam Tucker of Missoula; and two grandsons.
Memorials may be made to a person's choice.
