Havre police are warning residents to be aware of a scam taking place in the area.
An elderly resident received three calls falsely claiming she had won $1 million and needed to mail a cashier's check for $3,070 to an address in London, England, to claim the prize.
The return numbers have been identified as out-of-area calls. The address is likely a routing address, from which the money is returned to the United States, police said.
Victims or complainants suspecting a scam can contact the Consumer Sentinel Database, used by law enforcement agencies to track scams, toll-free at (877) 382-4357.
