It was a busy weekend of local Hi-line high school volleyball as all area teams saw plenty of action over the Labor Day weekend.
Thursday night, Sunburst downed the Big Sandy Pioneers in Class C action by scores of 25-10, 25-15 and 25-12.
On Friday night, the Chinook Sugarbeeters continued their season with a thrilling five-game win over Poplar in Poplar. The Beeters lost the first game 24-26 then won the next two by scores of 25-14 and 27-25. Poplar forced a fifth game by winning a do or die fourth game 25-23 and the Beeters prevailed in the fifth and decisive game 15-11. Chinook was led by Jennifer Baird with 10 kills and two aces while Holly Dennis contributed with 28 assists and Jessica Hollingsworth had 19 digs.
Also Friday night, the Chester Coyotes won a pair of games over Rocky Boy and Box Elder in Chester. In the first game, the Coyotes downed Box Elder: 25-19, 25-10 and 25-16. The Coyotes were led by Marissa Stokes with 10 assists and Amanda Schlepp added three kills. The Bears were led by Brandy Lawrence with seven kills and Chassidy Parisian with eight assists. In game two, the Coyotes defeated Rocky Boy: 25-17, 26-24, 25-17. The Coyotes got five kills from Alisha Fossen and 22 assists from Marissa Stokes. The Morning Stars were led by Ali Sunchild with 18 assists and Tia Gopher had five aces.
In Gildford, the KG Kougars defeated the J-I Rams 25-19, 25-27, 25-12 and 25-14. The Kougars were led by Cady Arifin with eight kills and four blocks as well as Steph Dees with 21 assists. J-I got 34 assists from Cari Fusk and Laine Lybeck added 31 digs and a block.
On Saturday, the Blue Sky Eagles knocked off the Box Elder Bears 22-25, 25-22, 25-20 and 25-16. The Eagles were led by Jessica Patrick with nine kills, Holly Haas had 11 assists and Lindsey Anderson had six aces while the team racked up 20 total aces. The Bears were led by Ann Favel with five kills and Tasha Parisian added four aces.
In Joplin, the Big Sandy Pioneers defeated the J-I Rams by scores of 22-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-9 and 15-5. The Pioneers were led by Morgan Louvar with 11 kills and 21 digs while Colette Terry added 20 digs. Haley Grubb added 30 assists in the win. The Rams were pushed by Megan Herdina with nine kills and three blocks and Cari Fusk added five service aces.
In Sunburst, the KG Kougars were defeated by Sunburst 25-18, 25-15, 25-27 and 25-15. Leading the Kougars were Kim Berg with seven kills and six blocks and Steph Dees with 19 assists.
