Its time to clean up our act, Havre

Our view

Mayor Bob can't do it all on his own.

We've all heard about how Bob Rice stoops to pick up trash wherever he sees it on Havre streets.

We should all be helping him every day. But we don't. And so Havre has a chronic problem of litter. Streets are dotted with glass from beer bottles thrown from cars and trucks.

Let's use Havre Pride as an opportunity to contribute to the cleanup effort.

Two times a year, Kim Cripps heads up an effort to organize a community cleanup. The next one coming up is Sept. 14 from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

There are many ways to help out. Business owners are being asked to clean up the areas around their stores. Some people will supervise kids who are fulfilling community service requirements. Others will work with civic or employee groups or individually to pick up trash along streets and highways.

If you can't do any of that, could you please just walk outside, look around and put any trash that's found its way into your yard in a trash bin.

People and organizations that would like to take part in the cleaning effort can call Cripps at 265-4353.

You can pick up trash bags, starting at 8:30 a.m., at any of these redemption sites: Sixth Avenue ballfield, Noon's at Highland Park, the VFW parking lot, Stromberg's Sinclair and outside the North Havre Community Food Bank.

As an extra incentive, coupons donated by local businesses will be given for each 20-pound bag of street trash picked up and taken to a redemption site.
