The first weekend of high school football on the Hi-line is in the books as several area teams were victorious, while other teams are still looking for their first win of the season.

On Friday night, the Chinook Sugarbeeters opened their season on the losing end of a 42-7 rout at the hands of the Fort Benton Longhorns. Fort Benton running back Loren Utterback rushed for 214 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Beeters only touchdown came on an 83-yard kickoff return by Kellan Broadhead. The Beeters next play Friday night in Glasgow.

Also on Friday night, the Simms Tigers downed the Harlem Wildcats in Harlem 18-6. Beanie Fetter had the only touchdown for Harlem with a one yard run in the second quarter. The Wildcats will next play Friday at home against conference rival Plentywood.

On Saturday, the Blue Sky/KG Eagles romped over Valier 35-7 in Rudyard. Eagle's quarterback Jon Lipp passed for a 160 yards and three TD's and returned a punt for another touchdown. Levi Wendland also had a four yard touchdown run in the victory. Next up for the Eagles will be the Heart Butte Warriors Saturday afternoon in Heart Butte.

In Belt, the Big Sandy Pioneers fell victim to the Huskies 42-8 in the season opener for both teams. Huskies fullback Sam Leritz rushed for a 110 yards and three touchdowns. A five yard touchdown pass from Matt Myers to Mason Ophus in the third quarter accounted for the only Pioneer score of the day. The Pioneers are back in action Friday night against Power-Dutton-GFC in Big Sandy.

In Power, the Power-Dutton-Great Falls Central Titans racked up 400 yards of total offense in route to a 58-22 victory over the Chester Coyotes. Patrick Wicks scored a couple of touchdowns for the Coyotes in the loss. the Coyotes open their home schedule this Friday night against Belt.

Meanwhile the Rocky Boy Stars fell to the defending state champion Geraldine Tigers 80-34 in Geraldine. The Tigers' Mike Clark scored five times including three rushing touchdowns and two more passing. Dustin Sunchild threw three TD passes for the Stars. Rocky Boy next plays Saturday at home against the J-I Rams.

In Augusta, the Box Elder Bears six-man debut was a a close loss at the hands of the Augusta Elks 38-32. Cole Henderson led the way for the Bears, scoring three rushing touchdowns and catching a TD pass as well. The Bears next play Saturday afternoon in their home opener against Geyser.

In Hays, the the Hays-Lodge Pole Thunderbirds opened their season with a lopsided victory over the Heart Butte Warriors 49-16. The T-Birds season continues Saturday in Centerville.
