The third annual Blaine County Ag Resource Tour will be held on Sept. 20.
This year the tour will focus on oil and gas exploration and its effect on the local communities. The day is planned to begin at 8 a.m. with the group going to a drilling site north of Chinook. Tour participants will get a firsthand view of the oil and gas drilling process and also tour the pumping station. The morning session is being organized by Lone Wolf Energy and EnCana Corp.
After the morning session, the tour will continue back at the Blaine County Fairgrounds with a speaker from the Montana Oil and Gas Commission. The speaker will define the commission's roll in protecting landowners when sites are being drilled and when pipelines cross their land. Sanjel Inc. of Chinook will be on hand sometime during the day to explain its roll in the drilling process. Horizontal drilling will be demonstrated by Dave Haider of Chinook, owner of DHC Inc. Tour participants will also get to see a demonstration unit of Giro Compression by Syntec-Eneflex of Havre. John Skoyen of Havre Pipeline Co. will demonstrate the use of an electronic flow measuring device the company uses. Tour day will conclude about 5 p.m. with meals being provided.
This year's tour is again being organized by Leon LaSalle of the Natural Resources Conservation Service office in Blaine County; Mike Schuldt, Blaine County Extension agent; and Tammy Bergman of the FSA in Blaine County.
They are gathering sponsorships for the tour and making time-line plans. Anyone with questions can contact them. Pre-registration is encouraged before Sept. 18 by calling Tammy at 357-2320, extension 2.
