CLARENCE MCDANIEL, Obituary

Clarence Charles McDaniel, 78, a retired machinist from the Burlington Northern Railway, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at his home due to complications from cancer.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with Pastor John Chapman officiating. Burial of the

cremated remains will follow with full military honors at the Highland Cemetery in Havre. A fellowship will be held at the VFW Club in Havre immediately after the committal rite at the graveside.

Clarence was born June 3, 1924, to Clarence F. and Elizabeth (Lohr) (Wood) McDaniel north of Chester on the family homestead. He was raised north of Chester and attended Bear Den School and Joplin High School. Clarence entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 17, 1945, and was honorably discharged Dec. 8, 1946, as a private first class. After the service Clarence worked at the Great Falls smelter, McGlaughin Construction and Bear Paw Motors.

He married Virginia Lee on Nov. 17, 1949, in Havre. The couple made their home in Havre where Clarence worked for the Burlington Northern Railway.

Clarence enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, hunting, berry picking and Diamond Willow woodwork. What he enjoyed the most was spending time with his family and friends. Clarence was a member of the Van Orsdel United Methodist Church.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alvin "Shorty," Earl, and Vern McDaniel; half-brothers, Edgar and Ray "Bud" Woods; sister, Verna Sue Woods; half-sister, Laura Ness.

Clarence is survived by his wife, Virginia McDaniel of Havre; daughter, Myrna (Leland "Chris") Christopherson of St. Marys, Ga.; son, Thomas F. (Susan) McDaniel of Havre; sister, Joyce (Joe) Tempel of Chester; half-sister, Olive Svenson of Joplin; half-brother, Jim Woods of Whitlash; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
