Cross Country to face new teams at Fergus

The Havre High Cross Country team looks to continue it's solid season this weekend in Lewistown. The Ponies will be in Lewistown on Saturday for the Fergus High Cross Country Invitational.

The three mile race will feature several quality class A, B, and C schools and will be held at the Judith Shadows Golf Course in Lewistown.

Besides the Ponies and host Fergus High, the meet will feature several Class A schools that the Ponies have not seen in action.

"Hardin, Laurel, and Livingston will be at this meet and they are all teams we have not seen this year," said Havre head coach Kim Ray. "I know Hardin has a couple of really good girls running for them so I am really glad they will be at this meet."

Class B schools Cascade and Wolf Point will also be at the meet, as well as Belt, and several other local Class C schools.

Both the Havre varsity and junior varsity teams will be competing in separate races this weekend unlike last week in Cut Bank. All of the Havre runners started at the same time in that race. The Ponies finished second overall, in Cut Bank coming in just behind defending Class A state champion Bigfork.

While Ray's team has been running well all season, she said they will have some adjustments to make in this race.

"We had a really good week of practice," Ray said. "But, this is our first trip of the season where we have to get up really early and travel so the girls are going to have to adjust to that in order to be prepared for this race."

Havre has been paced by senior standout Alicia Rundquist all season, but Ray likes what her entire varsity team has done up to this point.

"All of our girls have ran really well in every race so far this season," Ray said. "I am really pleased with how we are doing as a team right now."

The Ponies are at the midway point of the regular season and Ray said she is very comfortable with where her team is at.

"We have a way to go," Ray said. "But the way we're running right now, I like our chances when divisionals and state come around."

The Havre JV team will race at 11 a.m. and the varsity race will begin at noon.
