It's homecoming time around the state of Montana. On the Hi-Line, one area football team celebrated its homecoming festivities with a win, while another saw its festivities spoiled by a loss. There were also a few teams pulling out surprise victories over the weekend.

In District 2B action on Friday night, the Chinook Sugarbeeters' homecoming festivities were soured by the Plentywood Wildcats, who downed the 'Beeters 42-14. The Wildcats jumped out to an early 7-0 lead before Chinook tied the game on a Michael Mereness two-yard TD run. In the second quarter, the 'Beeters committed two key turnovers that led to Wildcat touchdowns and 20 second-quarter points.

Chinook would not get on the board again until the the fourth quarter. The 'Beeters scored late on a Matt Roseberry seven-yard TD reception. While Plentywood racked up 299 yards of total offense, the 'Beeters were limited to just 79 yards. Plentywood got 104 yards rushing out of Brandon Hepner, and quarterback Shane Zeidler passed for 103 yards and also rushed for two touchdowns in the victory.

The 'Beeters are now 0-4 on the season and 0-3 in district play. Chinook will visit Wolf Point on Friday night.

In Harlem, the Glasgow Scotties shut out the host Wildcats 42-0. The Scotties scored 30 points before halftime and tacked on a touchdown in each of the final two periods. Glasgow was paced by quarterback Steve Falcon, who threw for three TDs. Harlem's Evan Azure had a big night on defense, as he had 20 unassisted tackles in the loss. The loss drops the Wildcats to 1-2 in the 2B and 1-3 overall. Harlem will visit Poplar on Friday.

In Chester, the Chester Coyotes routed the Sunburst Refiners on homecoming 58-6. The Coyotes scored 30 points in the first quarter. Two of the touchdowns came on runs of 45 yards and one yard by Adam Stubbs. Shannon Norick also scored on a nine-yard run. Mitch Violett, Brad Fenger, Patrick Walstad, Patrick Wicks and Kevin May also scored on rushing touchdowns. The Coyotes had a 52-0 lead at halftime. Chester (2-2) will visit Northern C powerhouse Centerville on Saturday.

On Saturday, the Big Sandy Pioneers picked up a huge Northern C conference victory in Rudyard. The Pioneers downed the KG-Blue Sky Eagles 42-7. The Pioneers struck first with a one-yard TD run by Skylar Pearson. The Eagles answered on a 40-yard TD scamper by quarterback Jon Lipp that left the game at 7-6 at the end of the first period.

However, Big Sandy would reel off 35 unanswered points en route to the victory. Quarterback Gage Brumwell hooked up twice with Matt Myers and twice with Mason Ophus, giving him four TDs through the air. Pearson added a late 56-yard touchdown run to cap off the scoring. The victory puts both teams at 2-2 on the season and still very much alive in the playoff race. Big Sandy will host Heart Butte on Friday night while the Eagles visit Hays-Lodge Pole on Saturday.

The Rocky Boy Stars picked up their first win of the season by blowing out Brockton on Saturday in Rocky Boy, 79-6. Quarterback Dustin Sunchild scored five times, including four rushing TDs. Sunchild also returned a fumble 19 yards for a score. Josh Seaton also scored twice for the Stars along with Mason Rock, who had two rushing touchdowns. The Stars scored 39 of their 79 points in the first quarter and were never challenged. Rocky Boy is now 1-3 on the season and will visit the Highwood Mountaineers on Saturday.

In Dutton, the Power-Dutton-Great Falls Central Titans raced out to a 24-0 first-quarter lead en route to a 44-6 victory over Hays-Lodge Pole. The Thunderbirds' lone score came in the third quarter on a 25-yard pass play from Garret Moran to Trevor Boschie. The Titans got huge games from both of their quarterbacks. Reid Fleshman threw for 191 yards and two touchdowns. Fleshman also had 53 yards receiving. Stephen Horras added 143 yards passing and two TDs and also had 90 yards receiving. Hays-Lodge Pole (1-3) will host the KG-Blue Sky Eagles on Saturday.

In Highwood, Tyler Pasha took the game's opening kickoff 71 yards for a touchdown as the Highwood Mountaineers downed the Box Elder Bears 75-14. Highwood scored 20 first- quarter points but the Bears were only down by six when the period came to an end. Aaron Henry caught a 35-yard TD pass from quarterback Neal Rossette and Tim Parker scored on a one-yard run.

However, the Mountaineers scored 22 of their 62 unanswered points in the second quarter, as the Bears weren't able to get back in the end zone the rest of the way. Pasha and Mike Lee scored three times each in the victory. Box Elder is now 0-4 on the season. The Bears will host Lambert on Saturday.
