DON HOLST, Obituary

MISSOULA Don C. Holst peacefully passed away on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at a Missoula hospital.

Don was born Aug. 20, 1925, in Fargo, N.D., to Lida B. Chalmers and Carl Holst. He grew up in Plentywood and spent many summers in Winona, Minn., at his grandpar-

ents' farm. Don attended Plentywood High School and participated in football, basketball and track.

In 1942, Don joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard an LST in the Pacific Theater of World War II. Sailing was in his blood, and he continued to go to sea with the Merchant Marines, which enabled him to visit ports all over the world. He gave up sailing to raise a family in 1955. Don pursued a career in sales, culminating in the insurance field. He actively sold health and life insurance in Montana until his retirement in 1985.

Don resided in Billings and Harlowton during his retirement until the year 2000. He then moved to Missoula to be closer to his family. This enabled him to watch the University of Montana Grizzly basketball team, which his son Don coached.

During his life, Don loved to fish and bird hunt, as well as attend numerous sporting events. Don raised two sons, Don and Dinty Holst, both of whom played basketball for the Northern Montana College Lights in Havre.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dinty, who died in 1995.

He is survived by his son, Don; grandchildren; Lindsey, Dylan, and Lida; brothers; Eric and Chris; and sister; Marylyn.

A private memorial service has already taken place.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Cremation and Burial Society of the Rockies.
