Boys golf tied for third at Flat-Fish

The Havre High boys golf team is tied for third going into today's final round of the Flat-Fish Open. The Pony boys fired a team score of 317 on the Whitefish Lake Golf Club's South Course to fall into a tie with host Whitefish. The Ponies are just nine strokes off of tournament leader CMR.

"I was very pleased with the boys today," said head coach Keith Evenson. "At first I was upset when I started getting our scores back, but when I saw them in comparison to other scores, I was pretty happy."

Chazz Hurlburt led the Ponies with a 78, which left him tied for seventh. While no other boys cracked the top 10, they did have solid first-round scores.

Jon Johnstone fired a 79, followed by Trent Normandy and Ben Erickson with 80s and Eric Ward with an 86.

"I told the boys that it's the 3-4-5 golfers that win tournaments," Evenson said. "We didn't have a great individual performance like other teams but their 3-4-5's are shooting in the nineties."

On the girls' side, Amanda Brock shot a solid round of 98 at the tough Buffalo Hill Golf Club to lead the Ponies.

"Amanda played very well," Evenson said. "That is her lowest score she has shot in competition and it came on a very tough golf course."

The Pony girls are currently sixth with a team score of 432. Ryan Hamilton shot a 106 for Havre, with teammate Brittany Job a stroke behind at 107. Mikyla Veis and Heather Bowker shot a 121 and 129, respectively.

The boys and girls will switch venues today with the boys playing at Buffalo Hill, while the girls will play the Whitefish Lake North Course.
