MILDRED HOLMES, Obituary

CHINOOK Mildred O. Holmes, 96, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at a Chinook nursing home of natural causes.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the American Lutheran Church. Burial will take place earlier at Kuper Memorial Cemetery.

Mildred was born on March 10,. 1906, in Hendricks, Minn., to Frank and Martha (Tunem) Halverson. She attended school in Hendricks and in Chinook, when the family moved here in 1915.

Mildred married Harold J. Holmes on Dec. 19, 1922, in Havre. The lived in Chinook, then moved to Fargo, N.D., in 1957. They returned to Chinook in 1971.

Mildred's hobbies included baking, cooking, scrap books, grandchildren and family. She loved to have friends in to visit.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, three grandchildren, and her husband, Harold Holmes, who died in June 1985.

Survivors include her sons, Robert Holmes of Chinook, John Holmes of Havre and Richard Holmes of Stevensville; daughters, Marie Rindy of Portland, Ore., Helen Parnell of Chinook, Arlene Holmes of Sun City, Ariz., and Anna Sattleen of Chinook; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to the American Lutheran Church, Chinook Senior Citizens Center, Sweet Memorial Nursing Home activities department or one's choice.

Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
