Beeters, Coyotes win two; Refiners roll on

Volleyball action was abundant across the Hi-Line this weekend as teams prepare and position themselves for the upcoming district tournaments.

On Friday night, the Chinook Sugarbeeters continued their winning ways as they downed the Plentywood Wildcats in District 2B play. The Beeters defeated the Wildcats by scores of 25-20, 17-25, 25-20 and 26-24.

Brittany Buhman led the way for the Beeters in the tightly contested affair with nine kills and two blocks. Holly Dennis had 21 assists and Jennifer Baird added 16 digs and an ace in the victory.

The Sugarbeeters continued to play well on Saturday, avenging an earlier loss to the Glasgow Scotties in Glasgow. The Beeters defeated the Scotties by scores of 25-16, 25-17 and 25-23. Chinook got six kills from Kayla Erskine, while Brittany Buhman added three blocks and Holly Dennis had two aces. The Beeters will host Poplar on Friday night and then visit Wolf Point on Saturday.

Also on Friday, the Sunburst Refiners defeated the Class A Browning Indians 24-26, 25-11, 25-15 and 25-18. The Refiners were paced by Carly Kleinert with 21 kills and a block. Mallory Furr had 10 service aces in the victory.

On Saturday in Box Elder, the Chester Coyotes picked up a pair of key District 6C wins over the Box Elder Bears and the Rocky Boy Morning Stars.

In the first match, the Coyotes downed the Morning Stars 25-12, 25-18 and 25-12. The Morning Stars were led by Tia Gopher with seven kills, five aces, and three blocks. Allie Sunchild added 16 assists.

The Coyotes followed that victory with a three-game sweep of host Box Elder. The Coyotes downed the Bears by scores of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-14. Chester was paced by Alisha Fossen and Amanda Schlepp with four kills apiece. Marrisa Stokes chipped in with 10 assists in the win. Box Elder was led by Chassidy Parisian with 2 aces and nine assists.

Chester will next host Big Sandy on Thursday night, and will visit KG on Saturday. Box Elder will host J-I on Thursday night, and then will play Sunburst and Rocky Boy on Saturday in Rocky Boy. The Morning Stars will visit J-I on Friday night before hosting Sunburst on Saturday.

Also on Saturday, the Big Sandy Pioneers downed the J-I Rams by scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-14 in Big Sandy. The Pioneers got 10 kills and six blocks from Morgan Louvar. Shana Davis had 12 kills and Haley Grubb had 44 assists, two digs and three aces. Collette Terry added 11 kills and two aces as well. The Rams were led by Cari Fusk with five kills, 33 assists and six digs. Candy Ross had five kills, and Megan Herdina had six blocks. The Rams will visit Box Dlder on Thursday and host Rocky Boy on Friday.

In Rudyard, the Blue Sky Eagles picked up a big 6C win over the Rocky Boy Morning Stars. The Eagles defeated the Stars by scores of 25-10, 25-17 and 25-18. Heather Wendland led the way for the Eagles with seven kills, three digs and a block. Natalie Strissell had nine assists, three digs and three aces. Rocky Boy was paced by Tia Gopher with eight kills, two blocks and three aces. Charmayne Four Colors had four kills in the loss. The Eagles will host KG on Thursday and visit Big Sandy on Saturday.

Also on Saturday, the Sunburst Refiners continued their 6C unbeaten streak by knocking off the KG KouGars in Kremlin by scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 25-11. The Refiners got 27 kills and two blocks from Carly Kleinert. Desiree Overcast also had five service aces in the win. The KouGars were led by Emily Stewart with two kills, three blocks and 13 digs. Whitney Hanson added two aces in the loss. KG visits Blue Sky on Thursday and will host the Chester Coyotes on Saturday.
