HELEN HEAVEY, Obituary

Helen I. (Delp) Heavey, 71, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at a Great Falls hospital of natural causes.

Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday at the Fifth Avenue Christian Church with Pastor Rowley Hutton officiating. Burial is to follow at the Highland Cemetery. Fellowship following the committal rite will be at the Church.

Helen was born Dec. 10, 1930, to Lasco B. and Gladys (Townsend) Delp at Conrad. She attended Oil Mont Elementary and graduated from Sunburst High School.

On June 30, 1956, Helen married Joseph H. Heavey in Sunburst. To this union, three sons were born. The couple resided in Havre, his hometown.

Helen was a Northern Montana College (now MSU Northern) graduate. She worked for the Hill County Treasurer's Office for several years.

Helen was a great cook who enjoyed knitting, cake decorating, sewing, square dancing, and gardening especially African violets in her house. She loved horses and was great with other animals as well. She enjoyed travelling until her health prevented her from doing so.

She was the driving force for several organizations including: 4-H, the Jeans and Janes Square Dancing Club, and The Blue Horizon Good Sam's Club. She never complained about herself, and was always concerned about the other person. She was a member of the Sixth Avenue Christian Church and The North Havre Women's Club. Helen was the main force in getting the school bus up and operational for the St. Joe Road (north of Havre.) She was also instrumental in getting that specific road paved. She was on the Home Dialysis Program. She was a member of the North Havre Community Lady's Club. She attended MSU-Northern's 50-year Class reunion this past spring, but was disappointed the turnout was so poor.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lasco B. and Gladys (Townsend) Delp; brother, James Delp; and an infant son.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph H. Heavey of Havre; brother, Bob "Odes" (Sylvia) Delp Great Falls; sons, James (Debra) Heavey of Havre and Wayne Heavey Pocatello, Idaho.
