DAISY MARIE LINTHICUM, Obituary

HAYS Daisy Marie (Chaba Wia Beaver Woman) Snell Linthicum, 70, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at Havre after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Wake and rosary is 7 p.m. today at the Red Whip Center in Fort Belknap. Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Saturday at the Red Whip Center with burial in the Snell Family Cemetery in Hays.

Daisy was born March 5, 1932, in a a log house in Hays to James H. and Azalea (Hawley) Snell. She was raised in Hays and attended St. Paul's Mission

School. She graduated in 1950. After graduation, she worked at the Fort Belknap Hospital.

While working at the hospital, she met and married John H. "Jack" Young.

In 1965, the family relocated to Santa Rosa, Calif., where her husband was employed. They later divorced.

In 1968, she married Eugene Linthicum. He was a long-distance driver and she often drove the truck herself. For many years, they traveled the lower 48 states until Eugene retired from the trucking business. Along with trucking, Daisy worked at various occupations throughout her lifetime.

In her free time, Daisy enjoyed crocheting, collecting dolls, angels and frogs, hunting, fishing, doing crossword puzzles, traveling, powwows, Harlem Wildcat basketball games, reading having her hair and nails done, visiting with the sisters from Sacred Heart Church, and watching television.

In 1982, her youngest daughter, Judy died, and she took in Judy's two young sons. Later that year, she moved back to Montana and began a long career with the Fort Belknap Head Start. She began as a parent volunteer, was later hired as a teacher's aide, and finally became a teacher. She held many other positions at Head Start, including cook, education coordinator, Home Base teacher coordinator, and foster grandparent. While working at Head Start, Daisy attended Fort Belknap College and received associate degrees in liberal arts and early childhood education.

In February 2001, she was diagnosed with cancer, but continued teaching as long as her health allowed her to teach.

Daisy was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Ann; her mother and father; seven brothers; two sisters; and two great-granddaughters.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene of Fort Belknap; special grandsons, Joseph and Adrian Garcia of Fort Belknap; daughters, Jackie McConnell of Havre, Kathy Doney of Great Falls, Cheryl Young and Penny Young of Tulare, Calif., Donna Young and Lynda Young of Fort Belknap; son, John H. "Buddy" Young Jr. of Billings; sisters, Geraldine Doney of Harlem, Lois Snell and Rosemary Peak of Hays; 28 additional grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
