Blue Sky, Big Sandy pick up key 6C wins; Chinook, Sunburst continue to roll

With Montana Education Association meetings taking place, there will little if any volleyball action on the weekend. Instead, there are several matches early in the week.

In a matchup of two of the top teams in District 6C, the Blue Sky Eagles defeated the Chester Coyotes, 25-14, 25-16, 25-21, in Chester on Monday.

Kaila Warren led the Eagles with eight aces, two blocks and two digs, while Lindsay Anderson had seven kills and three aces. The Coyotes got five kills from Amanda Schlepp in the loss.

The Big Sandy Pioneers also picked up a win Monday night. The Pioneers picked up a 25-16, 25-19, 25-20 win over the KG KouGars in Big Sandy. Haley Grubb had nine of Big Sandy's whopping 21 service aces in the match while also dishing out 40 assists. Shana Davis and Morgan Louvar each had 14 kills. Louvar also added five blocks and five digs.

The Sunburst Refiners continue to roll in the Northern C, defeating the J-I Rams 25-16, 25-11, 25-12.

Carly Kleinert had 18 kills and a pair of blocks to lead the Refiners. J-I was paced by Carrie Fusk with 17 assists and 10 digs.

The Box Elder Bears picked up a five- game victory over the Rocky Boy Morning Stars, 25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 21-25 and 15-6.

Box Elder was led by Tami Infante with 15 kills, while Chassidy Parisian dished out 24 assists. Charmaine Four Colors had 10 kills and teammate Allie Sunchild added 14 assists for Rocky Boy.

There was plenty of action across the Hi-Line this past weekend, as well.

On Thursday, the Blue Sky Eagles downed the KG KouGars by scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-22. The Eagles were paced by Jessica Patrick with 10 kills and four blocks. The Eagles also had 14 aces in the match. Lindsay Anderson had four of those aces in the win. The KouGars got nine kills, four blocks and eight digs from Emily Stewart.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters continued to stay hot as they defeated the Poplar Indians in Chinook on Friday night. The Beeters won the match by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-6. Shaylan Haugen led the way for the Beeters with eight kills. Holly Dennis had 18 of Chinook's 27 assists.

The Beeters extended their winning streak on Saturday by knocking off the Wolf Point Wolves in Wolf Point. The Beeters downed the Wolves 25-21, 25-16 and 25-13. Leading the way for the Beeters was Jennifer Baird with 12 kills and three aces. Holly Dennis added 17 assists in the victory.

Also on Friday night, the J-I Rams downed the Rocky Boy Morning Stars in District 6C action by scores of 19-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-19 and 18-16. Leading the way for the Rams in the come-from-behind victory was Katie O'Neil with five kills and five blocks. Cari Fusk added 24 assists and 10 digs in the loss.

The Sunburst Refiners picked up a pair of 6C victories over Box Elder and Rocky Boy in Rocky Boy on Saturday.

The Refiners downed the Bears by scores of 25-12, 25-14 and 25-18. Leading the way for the Refiners was Carly Kleinert with 27 kills, four aces and three blocks. Desiree Overcast added 15 assists and four aces. The Bears got eight kills from Tammi Infante and nine assists from Chassidy Parisian in the loss.

In the second match, the Refiners knocked off the host Rocky Boy Morning Stars by scores of 25-6, 25-27, 25-12 and 25-14. The Refiners were paced by Kleinert again with 18 kills, seven aces and three blocks. The Stars were led by Tia Gopher with 14 kills and nine blocks. Allie Sunchild added 22 assists in the loss.

The Chester Coyotes defeated the KG KouGars by scores of 25-14, 25-16, 23-25 and 25-20. The Coyotes were paced by Courtney Fraser's 12 kills. Marissa Stokes contributed 22 assists. KG was led once again by Emily Stewart with 12 kills, 13 digs and 10 aces.
