GENEVIEVE BENNETT, Obituary

FORT BENTON Genevieve Pauline Bennett, 86, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, of natural causes.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Fort Benton. A reception will follow.

Genny was born on Aug. 20, 1916, in Big Sandy to Ida B. and Jesse "Gene" Willis. She grew up on the family homestead, ESKAY, south of Big Sandy in the Hopp/Illiad area with her parents, sister and brother.

On Aug. 5, 1945, she married Ray. L. Bennett. They worked on the family farm until 1955, when Ray decided to buy a grocery store and move to Fort Benton. Working side by side, they ran Bennett's Food Center and raised their sons. In 1978, they retired and continued to stay at their home that Ray built in Fort Benton.

Genny's love was her husband, Ray, her boys and their spouses, and her grandchildren. And as a result, her life was filled with working at the store, attending activities with the boys, fishing and camping, nursing Ray through poor health, family vacations, praying and worrying about the grandkids, and enjoying the golden years with Ray, taking trips south and spending their summers at their cabin on Swan Lake.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Francis, in World War II; and daughter-in-law, Sandra.

Survivors include her husband, Ray of Fort Benton; sons, Gene (Lisa) Bennett of Boise, Idaho, and Jim (LeAnn) Bennett of Havre; sister, Lila Mae Webb of Seattle, Wash.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Benton Funeral Home is handling the cremation and arrangements.
