CARLENE SCHARFE, Obituary

Carlene Joy Scharfe, 53, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, in Fort Collins, Colo., at her daughter's home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Van Orsdel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terry Dunn officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland

Cemetery. A fellowship will follow the committal rite in the Olympic Room at the Duck Inn.

Carlene was born Oct. 29, 1948, to Marvin and Velda (Todd) Duty in Lewistown. She moved to Havre with her family and graduated from Havre High School in 1966. She attended Northern Montana College and graduated with her BA in secondary education in 1970. She married Dick Scharfe on April 6, 1968. She taught at the Lewiston Middle School in Lewiston, Idaho, in 1970-1971. The couple moved to Great Falls and Carlene worked as a receptionist at the Great Falls National Bank from 1972 to 1973. The couple moved to Havre in 1973 and Carlene chose to stay at home and raise her children until 1980, when she went to work as an accountant. In 1990 she became the office manager of her husband's accounting firm, Richard Scharfe & Co., PC.

Carlene enjoyed many activities including golfing, skiing, reading, and spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter.

She is survived by her husband, Dick Scharfe of Havre; daughters, Dr. Stace Scharfe of Fort Collins, Colo., and Carrie (Jim) Kato of Havre; granddaughter, Lauren Kato of Havre; mother, Velda Duty of Havre; sisters, Darlene Bricker of Havre and Debbie Duty Deery of Reno, Nev .; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Duty in 1998, and her grandparents, Lester and Amy Duty and Frank and Lucille Todd.

Suggested memorials in Carlene's honor may be made to WWAMI Medical Program; Hospice of Larimer County, Colo .; or the MSU-Northern Foundation.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
