Regular season ends for area spikers

The final weekend of the 2002 regular season in Hi-line prep volleyball saw plenty of action and one huge upset by the Blue Sky Eagles.

On Thursday night, the Chester Coyotes knocked off the J-I Rams in Joplin by scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-14.

The Coyotes were led by Courtney Fraser with seven kills, six aces and a block. Marrisa Stokes added 18 assists in the victory. The Rams got nine kills and four blocks from Katie O'Neil, and Cari Fusk had 50 assists in the loss.

The Box Elder Bears defeated the KG KouGars 25-16, 25-17 and 25-17 in Box Elder. The Bears were paced by Tami Infante with 12 kills and 15 digs. Brandi Lawrence added four service aces. KG got four kills and four blocks from Cady Arifin in the loss.

In Rocky Boy, the Big Sandy Pioneers downed the host Morning Stars by scores of 25-14, 25-23 and 25-12. The Pioneers got six aces and 13 assists from Haley Grubb. Shana Davis added nine kills, and Raynee Pearson had seven blocks in the win. The Morning Stars were led by Charmayne Fourcolors with three blocks and three aces.

On Friday, the Chinook Sugarbeeters downed the Harlem Wildcats in District 2B play by scores of 25-9, 26-24 and 25-13. The Beeters were paced by Jennifer Baird with five kills while Tiffany Cuerth added two aces, seven digs and nine assists. The Wildcats got six kills and three blocks from Lilian Jonkers in the loss.

In Big Sandy, the host Pioneers defeated the Box Elder Bears 25-15, 25-22 and 25-21. The Pioneers got 12 kills from Shana Davis. Morgan Louvar added four blocks and eight service aces. The Bears were led by Tami Infante's five kills, while Codi Raining Bird had four aces.

The Blue Sky Eagles knocked off the J-I Rams in three straight games by scores of 25-11, 25-11 and 25-17 in Rudyard. The Eagles were paced on the court by Lindsay Anderson, who had five kills and two digs. Natalie Strissell contributed six aces and five assists. The Rams were led by Cari Fusk's 15 assists and Amanda Miller's 20 digs.

The Sunburst Refiners defeated the Chester Coyotes 25-13, 25-11, 23-25 and 25-21. The Refiners were led by Carley Kleinert's 38 kills and seven blocks. Chester got seven kills from Amanda Schlepp and five blocks from Alisha Fossen in the loss.

In Gildford, the KG KouGars defeated the Rocky Boy Morning Stars 25-8, 25-17, 23-25 and 25-16. The KouGars were paced by Emily Stewart with 11 kills and four blocks. Cady Arifin also had a fine all around game with 10 kills, four blocks, seven digs and seven aces. The KouGars had an outstanding 14 total aces in the match. Rocky Boy was led by Tia Gopher with 13 kills and Allie Sunchild with 13 assists.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters capped off an outstanding regular season with a thrilling five game victory over the Malta M-Ettes in Malta on Saturday.

Chinook downed the M-Ettes by scores of 23-25, 25-17, 17-25, 25-20 and 15-7. The Beeters were led to victory by Jennifer Baird's 20 kills and three blocks. Holly Dennis and Tiffany Cuerth had 16 assists a piece in the win. The Beeters will now prepare to host the District 2B tournament beginning on Oct 31.

Also on Saturday, the Blue Sky Eagles became the only District 6C team to knock off the Sunburst Refiners all season, as the Eagles won an exciting five game match in Rudyard. The Eagles downed the Refiners by scores of 15-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-22 and 16-14.

The Eagles got 12 kills and four blocks from Lindsay Anderson. Jessica Patrick added 11 kills and five blocks, and Natalie Strissell chipped in with five aces and 12 assists. Standout Carly Kleinert had 31 kills and one block while Brianna Gillund had nine kills and six aces for Sunburst.

With the regular season completed, all of the District 6C teams will meet in Chester this weekend for the district tournament.
