Havre hosts renowned childrens entertainer

Havre-area residents have a chance Thursday to see a Canadian children's performer with an international reputation.

Northern Showcase is bringing Norman Foote, a performer from Vancouver, British Columbia, to perform in Havre.

His performances are a mixture of songs, stories and performances by puppet-like characters Foote refers to as "props with attitude." He performs across North America and has gone overseas, working at theaters, festivals and with symphony orchestras.

Foote's performance will highlight his fifth CD, "1000 Pennies," winner of a 2002 National Parenting Publications Gold Award, a 2002 West Coast Music Award and a 2002 Parents' Choice Silver Award. He produced the CD and music video in association with the Canadian Scholarship Trust Plan, a nonprofit organization that helps parents save money for post-secondary education costs.

The performance will include songs from Foote's other four CDs, "Footeprints," "If the Shoe Fits," "Shake A Leg" and "Pictures on the Fridge."

His publishing credits include three other music videos and an illustrated children's book, "Spider Dan."

Foote has received two other Parents' Choice awards, another National Parenting Publications Association award, a West Coast Music Award for Best Children's Recording and three Juno nominations for Best Children's Album.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Havre High School auditorium. It costs $12 for adults and $7.50 for students. Entrance is free with a Northern Showcase season ticket or a validated Montana State University-Northern student ID card.
