GLEN ELLING, Obituary

RUDYARD Glen Allen Elling, 44, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, from injuries he sustained in a pickup accident at the junction of U.S. Highway 2 and Montana Highway 223 at Chester.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Rudyard. Burial of ashes will follow at the Rudyard Cemetery.

Glen was born on Dec. 17, 1957, at Havre to Fredrick Elling and Elva Johnson. He grew up in Rudyard and received his formal education there. He graduated from Rudyard High School in 1976. During high school, Glen was active in wrestling and football and played trumpet in the band. He continued his education at Missoula Vo-Tech, where he studied heavy-equipment operation.

During the next few years, Glen operated a scraper in Jefferie City, Wyo., and worked in the oil fields at Cut Bank and northern Montana. He returned to Rudyard to work at the Farmer's Union, where he handled the bulk fuel delivery. Glen eventually began working on the family farm south of Rudyard. During the winter months he worked on local construction projects and operated a windshield replacement business with his cousin, Lane Rigg.

Glen was baptized and confirmed at the old St. John's Lutheran Church in Rudyard. In his adult years, he was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Rudyard. He also was a member of the Farmer's Union, where he had served as a director on the board.

Glen participated in Hi-Line bowling and softball leagues for years and enjoyed trap shooting. He was a fan of the NFL, attended and participated in several of his friends' weddings over the years. In his quiet time, he enjoyed television, good movies and music of the '70s.

Glen loved farming. He drove truck when he was 7 and combine when he was 11. He was a fussy farmer who prided himself in keeping his furrows straight and true. He helped in the kitchen at family dinners, loved his sisters, and looked forward to the times he could spend with them and their children.

Glen was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Paul Johnson, and his paternal grandparents, Fred and Estella Elling.

Survivors include his parents, Fred and Elva Elling of Rudyard; sisters, Paula (John) Kratochvil of Billings and Traci (Mark) Waugh of Kalispell; four nephews and nieces; maternal grandmother, Dorma Hadford of Chester; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

Cremation and arrangements are by Rockman Funeral Chapel, Chester.
