CAROL HOLE, Obituary

CHESTER Carol Jessie Hole, 81, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at a Chester nursing home, where she had lived for 41 years.

Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Liberty County Nursing Home activities room in Chester. Graveside services with burial of ashes will be at 4:30 p.m. at Mountainview Cemetery in Shelby.

Carol was born on Oct. 2, 1921, at Lexington, Ky., to Samuel Alan Hole and Lela W. Glynch. Injuries at birth affected her motor skills, so she was unable to attend public schools. She did, however, receive personal tutoring at home and she was a good learner. As a child she loved to hear poetry.

Carol lived with her parents in Shelby for many years. They were visiting a friend at the Chester rest home in 1961 and Carol fell in love with the facility and staff. She moved to the nursing home that same year. The staff had been her dearly loved extended family since.

Carol enjoyed knitting and stamp collecting in her early years. She loved to travel and always looked forward to trips and outings with her folks. She had a wide circle of friends in Shelby and Chester and loved to be with people and be part of special events. Carol had a terrific memory for people, phone numbers, and addresses. Throughout her many years of disability and illness, she always remained cheerful, outgoing and loving.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lela Hole, in 1963, and her father, Samuel Hole, in 1971.

Survivors include her sister, Jean Peterson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two nieces; two nephews; and four cousins.
