Von Trapp performs

Singer-songwriter Elisabeth von Trapp is scheduled to perform in the Havre High School auditorium Sunday for a soldout crowd. The performance will begin at 2:30 p.m.

Von Trapp is the second of four performing artists to be featured by Havre Community Concerts this year.

Von Trapp, along with cellist Erich Kory, will perform a variety of different music.

"It's quite a collective, really. The guitar gives it a kind of folk flavor, though we'll also do some classical music and some original songs. Generally, people have really enjoyed our program. I'm really looking forward to coming to Havre," she said Thursday.

Von Trapp's list of musical influences includes Bob Dylan, the Beatles, and Joni Mitchell, as well as composers like Mozart, Shubert and Bartok.

Von Trapp was raised on a farm in Waitsfield, Vt. Her father was a member of the acclaimed Trapp Family Singers, made famous by the movie "The Sound of Music."

Von Trapp began playing the piano at age 8, and at 16 was playing guitar in a band with her siblings. The group traveled across New England, performing at various social gatherings.

Three albums have been released by Von Trapp. She has performed in the United States, Canada, Austria and Russia. Her television appearances have included BBC-TV, "Good Morning America," and "Eye on the People." Her music has received airplay on National Public Radio, CNN Spanish Radio, Japanese National Radio, and BBC-Radio.

Recently, she received permission from publisher Henry Holt & Co. to sing poems written by Robert Frost. The lyrics will be included on her next album, "Poetic License."

Von Trapp, who has a brother in the Kalispell area, has never been to Montana.

"I have been told that Montana is beautiful. I'm really looking forward to it," she said.

Von Trapp said that many of her recent appearances have been sold out.
