JOAN KREJCI, Obituary

BILLINGS Joan A. Krejci, 82, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Billings.

A rosary was to be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Michelotti-Sawyers

Havre is to follow the services in Billings at Holland and Bonine Funeral Home on Tuesday.

Interment will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Cemetery in Havre.

Joan was born June 1, 1920, to Louis and Clara (Tautges) Mayer. She grew up in Havre, where she graduated from St. Jude's Catholic School and Sacred Heart Catholic School of Nursing. Joan was very proud of her heritage as her grandfather John Mayer was instrumental with James J. Hill in bringing the railroads to Montana on their way to the West Coast.

Joan married Ervin Krejci of Rudyard on March 28, 1942, in Seattle, Wash. After his honorable discharge from the Army, they made their homes in Havre, Trinidad, Colo., Bozeman, Minneapolis, Minn., and Sidney, before settling in Billings in 1964. Joan returned to nursing at Sidney Memorial Hospital, Western Manor and Valley Nursing Homes.

Joan was known as a kind and compassionate person to her friends and patients, but especially to her children and grandchildren. Her hobbies were flower gardening, bowling, card playing and reading.

Joan was a charter member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Billings, and a member of St. Rose of Lima Circle and Catholic Daughters of America, both in Sidney and Billings.

She was preceded in death by her husband and an infant son; her parents; three brothers, Clarence, Francis and Walter; sister, Evelyn Nystrom; and son-in-law, Orlin Hansen.

Survivors include her son, Richard Krejci of Billings; daughters, Darlene Stochl of Billings and Judythe Hansen of Sidney; brother, Tom Mayer of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent Foundation, 1106 N. 30th, Billings, MT 59101, or to St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 2210 Colton Blvd., Billings, MT 59012.
