GEORGE YATES, Obituary

George Tyson Yates, 75, retired U.S. Navy veteran, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002.

There will be no services held at his request.

George was born Oct. 26, 1927, to Matthew and Elva D. (Filgo) Yates in Marion County, Ala. He was edu-

cated at Eoline Grade School and Bibb County High School.

In 1944 George enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from high school through military classes. He served his country during World War II, and served honorably for 20 years.

George married Nancy Smith in Birmingham, Ala. They later divorced, but remained devoted to each other and their three children.

In the Summer of 2002, George spent time in Phoenix with his daughter and grandkids before coming to spend his final days in Montana. George longed to spend his final days in Havre, where he could be with his children and his grandbabies who meant everything in the world to him. George left this world surrounded by the ones he loved so dearly.

He was a dedicated Pentecostal Evangelist, always eager to spread the Gospel.

George was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Birdie Frith.

George is survived by his daughters, Candance (Shawn) Burrington of Havre and Madolyn Veerkamp of Phoenix, Ariz.; son, Matthew Tyson Yates IV of Havre; grandchildren, Christopher, Adam, Joey, Jeremy and Alicia, all of Havre, and Erica, Daniel and Tommy, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; and sister, Mary (Earl) Stokes of Adamsville, Ala.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
