BORIS D. LODINOFF, Obituary

CHINOOK Boris D. Lodinoff, 83, a World War II veteran and a retired Burlington Northern Railway worker, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at a Chinook nursing home of natural causes.

Funeral services are Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Havre, with burial in the Highland Cemetery with military honors.

Boris was born Jan. 16, 1919, in Great Falls to Alexander and Bertha (Earles) Lodinoff. He attended schools in Whitefish.

Boris took an apprenticeship with the railroad when he was 16, and transferred to the railroad in Havre after serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in Belgium, France and Germany during the war.

He married Alma Zich in Havre on Jan. 30, 1952.

In 1980, Boris retired from the railroad as supervisor of the machine shop in Havre. He spent the last 11 years at the Sweet Memorial Nursing Home in Chinook.

Boris was very active in the Masonic Orders, VFW, American Legion, Military Order of the Kooties, and was a lifetime member of the Elks. He was especially proud of his contribution to building a new VFW in Havre, for which he was chairman of the building committee.

He and his wife enjoyed traveling around the country for VFW meetings, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling.

Boris was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Lodinoff, in 1997.

Survivors are a sister, Flora Anderson of Kalispell; and a brother, Alexander Lodinoff of Whitefish.

Memorials may be sent to the Havre VFW or to the Sweet Memorial Nursing Home.

Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
